Great job Bob as always. Jeannettes sister, Daughter Number 2, and I went to Pte-Sapin along with at least 5,000 others where there was about 4 minutes of totality. A woman we were talking to said that the little red spot on the bottom left of the eclipse jutted out about 200,000 kms from the sun. Puts into perspective just how huge our solar system is.

Why did Newfoundland fishing vessels not attempt to rescue survivors from the sinking titanic when it wend down so close to us.
strange question----- Anyway,they (newfoundland fisherman) were 350 MILES away from the titanic.....it would be a impossible task
I don't think you understand scale on a map. It would take a HELICOPTER a while to get to the scene from Newfoundland, let alone a boat. The Titanic struck the iceberg and sank hundreds of miles from Newfoundland. It looks close on a map, but it really isn't. Even if a fishing vessel had the equipment to receive the distress call (not likely), they still would have had to sail for hours in the darkness. Most fishing boats would be closer to the coast than to the Titanic, so you're talking about a 5-10 hour sail even if they were already out at sea fishing and managed to receive the distress signal. The end result would have been the same. The titanic sunk within a few hours, and the survivors who were exposed to the icy seawater froze to death in half an hour. As far as I know, until it was too late, no Newfoundland fishing vessels even really knew about the sinking, and none were close enough for a rescue to be reasonable.
